Belial was once one of the Virtues under the lustful angel Raphael, but fell in love with Lucifer. Since Belial sided with him during the war, s(he) became a demon and took on the name the Mad Hatter. Belial is one of the Seven Satan's, being that of Pride.

We first meet the Mad Hatter when (s)he visits Kurai in Gehenna to cause a little chaos. Possessing bodies, popping through walls, playing violins, the Mad Hatter comes and goes with a serious bang. What's her purpose? Besides acting like the Jester (s)he is? To bring Kurai to Lucifer to serve as his 999th bride. Of course, Belial's charming nature wins Kurai over... okay, not quite win's over so much as Kurai begins to get a little jealous when she sees Belial flirting with others. A little crush? Perhaps.

Okay, but what's with this (s)he stuff!?

You see, Belial was a female angel. But, when (s)he lost angel status, (s)he decided not to have a gender. So, though Belial was once female and now appears male (as is typical in androgeny), (s)he is really genderless.
